The design of the 2015 Subaru Legacy is very different from that of the 2014 Subaru Legacy; the redesign slightly increased the length and width, yielding lots more interior space (119.6 cubic feet for the 2015 model, compared with 117.7 cubic feet of the 2014 model). In addition, the shape of the Legacy has changed, giving it sleeker lines and a bolder, more dominant front fascia (with a powerful grille).

Both the 2014 and the 2015 Subaru Legacy give you a choice between two engines: a 2.5-liter Subaru Boxer engine and a 3.6-liter Subaru Boxer engine. Adjustments in power and efficiency have improved the engine for 2015; the 2014 model's 2.5-liter engine generated 173 horsepower and let the Legacy get up to 32 highway mpg with CVT, while the 2015 model's 2.5-liter engine generates 175 hp and lets it get up to 36 highway mpg. In addition, Lineartronic continuously variable transmission, which was an available feature on the 2014 Legacy, is standard on the 2015 Legacy.

The changes in safety features between the 2014 and 2015 Legacy aren't many, but they are important. Subaru EyeSight, a driver assist system that combines adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, and lane departure/sway warning functions was available on only the 2.5i Limited and 3.6R Limited trim levels in 2014; the 2015 Legacy makes EyeSight available on the 2.5i Premium trim level, as well. Improved convenience features include standard HD Radio on the 2015 model.
