That's why we're going to compare the Crosstrek and Outback models, giving you a side by side look at what each Subaru SUV does best.

Subaru Crosstrek vs. Subaru Outback

Price

The price of a vehicle is usually the first thing to consider, including the price to purchase or lease, along with the price its going to cost to drive around Los Angeles and beyond. Because the Crosstrek is a subcompact crossover SUV and the Subaru Outback is in the midsize crossover SUV class, the Crosstrek is going to be more affordable to purchase or lease for Hawthorne drivers. The Crosstrek starts at slightly under $25,000 while the Outback starts at slightly under $29,000, allowing you to choose the right model and work with our financing team to design a payment plan that works best with your financial needs.

Performance

All our new Subaru Crosstrek and Subaru Outback models come with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. The legendary all-wheel drive system comes standard on all Subaru SUVs to provide you with the utmost freedom and confidence behind the wheel, allowing you to take your adventures off-road and take on the toughest weather conditions with ease.

Under the hood, the Subaru Outback lineup provides a stronger performance than the Crosstrek, depending on the model. The Crosstrek lineup uses a standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine in the Base and Premium models, providing you with 152-horsepower and 145 pounds-feet of torque. The Subaru Outback lineup uses a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 182-horsepower and 176 pounds-feet of torque on the Base, Premium, Limited, Touring, and Onyx Edition models.

Choosing any of the Outback Limited XT, Touring XT, Onyx Edition XT, or Wilderness models will reward you with a sportier 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 260-horsepower and 277 pounds-feet of torque. Likewise, the Crosstrek lineup features a stronger 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine with 182-horsepower and 176 pounds-feet of torque on all the Sport, Wilderness, and Limited models.

Size

The Subaru Outback offers more space than the Subaru Crosstrek SUVs. The Crosstrek manages to provide comfortable seating for five passengers and 20 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row of seats to accommodate students, professionals, and families around Torrance. The Outback has a larger build, providing 109 cubic feet of passenger volume and 32.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row of seats.

Technology and Safety

The new Subaru Crosstrek lineup has a standard 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display on the Base model, while the Subaru Outback has dual 7-inch touchscreens on the Base model. Both vehicles upgrade to a larger 11.6-inch touchscreen display on all other models, providing you with tablet-like control of features and your smartphone as you travel to Long Beach and across the country with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.
